Top 10 Songs of 2012

Capturing intimately what went on for me in 2012 requires a recap of the new songs I listened to most. These songs will continue to represent Jamaica, new beginnings, heartbreak, walking to the bus, questioning, the beach, hope and starting over.

10. Alicia Keys: Brand New Me

“I’ll never be perfect, but at least now I’m brave. Now my heart is open, I can finally breathe.”

9. The xx: Chained

“Separate or combined, I ask you one last time, did I hold you too tight? Did I not let enough light in?”

8. Gotye: Giving Me A Chance

“You know I love you more than anyone, but I get a little wrapped up in myself.”

7.  Ed Sheeran: Give Me Love

“Give me love like never before, cause lately I’ve been craving you more.”

6. Polica: Wandering Star

“After all, I’m married to the wandering star. I kissed his moon. It was full when I fell in love with thee, but now the world turns without me.”

5. Ellie Goulding: Anything Could Happen

“I’ll give you anything you need, but I don’t think I need you.”

4. Katy Perry: Wide Awake

“Not losing any sleep, I picked up every piece and landed on my feet. Need nothing to complete myself.”

3. Carly Rae Jepsen: Call Me Maybe

“Hey, I just met you, and this is crazy! But here’s my number, so call me maybe?”

2. Passenger: Let Her Go

“Well, you only need the light when it’s burning low. Only miss the sun when it starts to snow. Only know you love her when you let her go.”

1. Rihanna & Drake: Take Care

“You won’t ever have to worry. You won’t ever have to hide. You’ve seen all my mistakes. So look me in my eyes.”

Honorable mentions – Fun: Some Nights, Sean Kingston: Back to Life, Of Monsters and Men: Dirty Paws, Florence + The Machine: Spectrum, Emeli Sande: My Kind of Love and Calvin Harris: Feels So Close.
